NELSON MONUMENT

Jacques Cartier Square Montreal

Restoration of the masonry

This monument in memory of Admiral Horatio Nelson was completed in 1809. It is the oldest public monument in Montreal. Our mandate consisted in doing reparations using restoration mortar, replacing some of the stones and in repointing all of the column’s masonry, including the pedestrian area around it, the pedestal, the shaft and the capital.

Given that the monument has been repaired numerous times over the years, a geologist specialising in palaeontology was hired to indicate to the architect the best kind of replacement stone.
